Import duties and taxes on watches from Switzerland

Customs is the part of an international purchase that surprises people most. A little preparation avoids any bad surprise at the door.

What can be charged

Most countries charge import VAT, GST or sales tax on the value of the watch plus shipping. Some also charge customs duty, which can depend on the origin of the watch, the case material and the movement. A few countries add special taxes on luxury goods.

DDP or DAP?

With DDP (Delivered Duty Paid), duties and taxes are paid in advance and the parcel is delivered without further charges. With DAP (Delivered At Place), the courier collects them from you before or at delivery, usually with a small handling fee. We tell you in your quote which option is available for your country.

Always the real value

We always declare the real purchase value. Under-declaring a watch is illegal, can lead to seizure and fines, and voids the shipping insurance. A correct declaration protects you.

Personal allowances

Some countries have rules or allowances for personal imports. Check with your local customs authority if you are unsure, or ask us and we will share what we know.
